Carbon aircraft brake-disk

 Latest breakthrough in China’s fast-growing commercial aviation sector has been unveiled – a revolutionary carbon aircraft brake-disk that shatters a monopoly on the technology held by foreign companies until now. The system will be incorporated into China’s next generation of domestically designed and produced long-haul aircraft.

 The brake disk, developed by the Xi’an Chaoma Technology Co. Ltd affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, has already passed experts’ appraisal. The brake disk has proprietary intellectual property rights and its function has reached international level, according to the appraisal meeting.

The disk costs half of the similar products overseas and can save about 100 million yuan (14.6 million yuan) a year for the Chinese civil aviation industry.

The disk applies the carbon-carbon composite materials, which has high intensity and stiffness. It’s 40 percent lighter than the traditional metal materials and can resist temperature as high as 2,000 degrees Celsius.

 Based on carbon brake overhaul experience, the carbon composite material specialists have developed their own carbon brake disk production process and equipment. They have also completed the R&D, testing and small quantity production of carbon brake disks. The CAAC has already accepted the PMA application for B757, B767, A320, A300, MD90 aircraft carbon brakes. This establishes the foundation to enter the international market. Carbon brake disks manufactured in China will soon be on the market to serve the needs of airlines.

 The brake disk has proprietary intellectual property rights and meets international standard, according to the experts.

 The disk has received the manufacturing licence for the Boeing 757 aircraft and the Airbus 318/319/320 jets.
